Furniture search and price-comparison sites in Estonia, Europe and the USA, how they earn money, and what Leitagu can learn from them.
Updated 29 October 2026View as Markdown
We found no competitor in Estonia: no Estonian search or price-comparison site built for furniture. Elsewhere, Möbel.de in Germany is the most developed furniture-only comparison site, and Furniture.com in the USA is the closest to Leitagu's chat-based search. This page is working research from 29 October 2026, built from a few web searches and the pages we could open; where a fact comes only from search results, the page says so.
Competitors in Estonia
The nearest site is the general portal Hinnavaatlus, which is centred on electronics. This rests on two web searches and one opened page, so a gap is not yet proven.
| Site | Type | What we confirmed | Open question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hinnavaatlus | General price comparison, since 1997 | Lists 3,164,781 products and 7,708,106 price offers; filters by price, stock and 3-day delivery; focus on computers, electronics and photo gear | Whether its "Sisustuskaubad" (home furnishings) category holds furniture |
| Hind.ee | Price comparison | Appears only in a third-party competitor listing | Not opened; furniture coverage unknown |
The closer rivals for a shopper's attention are the stores' own sites, covered next.
Estonian furniture retail
IKEA dominates: its Estonian arm turned over €95.2 million in the year to August 2023, more than double the previous year's €44.5 million, driven by the Kurna store opened in August 2022 (ERR News, April 2024).
- Second place: Evelekt, which runs Home4You, is the second-largest furniture retailer and closed 2023 with a slight loss; no turnover was given.
- Exits: The Finnish chains Sotka and Asko left Estonia in 2023.
- Aatrium furniture mall: turnover fell and it lost about €0.5 million in 2023.
- Demand: Retail trade had fallen for about 18 months; shoppers plan purchases more carefully, weigh price against quality and buy fewer on impulse.
Not yet covered: Sleepwell, Masku, Kodumaailm and Hoia, which our search did not return, and any figures newer than 2023.
Competitors in Europe
Germany has a mature furniture-specific comparison site, Möbel.de; elsewhere we found only smaller or partial players. Facts marked "opened" come from the site itself; the rest are from search results we could not open.
| Site | Country | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Möbel.de | Germany | Furniture price comparison since 2004; says it covers 100 million+ products from 1,000+ shops, with sites in nine countries and about 60 million visitors a year. Has price history, price alerts, a cross-device wishlist and photo search | Opened; figures are the site's own claims |
| idealo | Germany | General price comparison, covers home and garden | Guide opened, 12 June 2026 |
| DesignSpy | Latvia | Neural-network furniture recognition; search from photos; suggests items that fit a room from its floor plan | Search snippet only; page blocked; company site down on 29 Oct 2026 |
| uFurnish | UK | Furniture discovery site; AI image search launched August 2024 | Search snippet only; page blocked |
The closest neighbour to Estonia is DesignScan in Latvia, which is worth a direct look.
DesignSpy compared with Möbel.de
DesignSpy is software sold to merchants, while Möbel.de is a site shoppers visit. DesignScan's own site (designscan.eu) showed "402 Please renew your subscription" on 29 October 2026, so it is unclear whether the company still operates. The details below come from 2020–2021 launch coverage seen in search results.
| Möbel.de | DesignSpy | |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Consumer price-comparison site with its own audience | Software for merchants and marketplaces |
| Who pays | Shops, per click-out | Presumably the merchant, by licence; pricing not found |
| Core feature | Compare one product's price across 1,000+ shops, with alerts and history | Recognises furniture in photos; suggests items that fit a room from its floor plan |
| Photo search | Yes, via a third-party service | Its main feature, built in-house |
| Deployment | Website | Cloud or the client's own servers, tuned on the client's data |
| Scale | Claims 100 million+ products | Not stated; about €800k raised per EU-Startups |
No named retailers using DesignSpy were found. Leitagu combines a shopper-facing site with a guided chat and saved rooms, which neither of the two offers together.
idealo and uFurnish compared with Möbel.de
idealo is a general price-comparison giant that charges shops per click, as Möbel.de does. uFurnish is a UK furniture-only discovery site that sends shoppers to retailers. uFurnish's own site was blocked in our region, so its figures come from interviews and search results.
| Möbel.de | idealo | uFurnish | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Country | Germany | Germany; six European markets | UK |
| Focus | Furniture only | All consumer goods, furniture among many categories | Furniture only |
| Scale (own or reported claims) | 1,000+ shops; 100 million+ products | About 50,000 shops; 76 million visits a month (other sources: 78–120 million) | 100+ retailers; over 1 million products in 2021, 2.7 million in later profiles |
| How it earns | Per click-out from shops, with bidding | Per click from shops; no contract term or listing fee per a seller guide | Affiliate commissions per search results; not stated in the 2021 interview |
| Click price seen | €0.08 minimum; €0.50 partner rate | £0.24 in the UK (guide, undated); €0.51 plus a €20 minimum fee in Germany, from a 2026 guide in search results, not opened | Not found |
| Shops join via | Product feed and partner terms | Product feed (CSV, TXT or XML, or API), updated several times a day; shop must trade 6+ months | Retailer product data through an integration service |
| Image search | Yes, third-party | Not found | Launched August 2024, per search results |
idealo's click prices vary by country and by source; one source mentions a lower introductory rate of €0.44. uFurnish's 2021 interview reports £1.8m seed funding and company-claimed growth, which we could not check (Furniture News).
All three earn per click or affiliate commission from shops, so a per-click model matches the market. At €0.08–€0.51 per click, they set a price range to compare against. uFurnish is the closest in being furniture-only and shopper-facing; it also shows a country-sized furniture aggregator can start with about 100 retailers.
Main uFurnish features
From a 2020 launch article, a 2021 interview, a feature overview and search results; its own site was blocked in our region, so features may have changed.
- One search across many retailers: 100+ UK retailers in one place; the shopper clicks through to the retailer to buy.
- Filters: category, price and sales-discount (2021 interview).
- Favourites and collections: save products and group items from different retailers, for example a set of sofas or a list for a room.
- Sharing: products and collections can be shared so others can help decide.
- Sale alerts: an email when a saved product goes on sale, similar to Möbel.de's price alert.
- Image search: AI image search launched in August 2024 (search results; page not opened).
- Guides and content: interior design content and buying guides, such as for beds.
Not found: a chat or guided questions, a room model, or an explanation of why a product matches. Leitagu's guided chat, saved rooms and match explanations are where it would differ; uFurnish's collections resemble saving products to a room.
How Möbel.de earns money
Shops pay Möbel.de per click-out, not for the shopper tools. Terms from its billing settings page:
| Item | Amount (excl. VAT) |
|---|---|
| Minimum click price (bids below it are raised) | €0.08 |
| Partner and campaign click-outs | €0.50 per click |
| Technical base fee, billed separately from the budget | €0.02 per click |
| Minimum daily limit | €50 |
| Surcharge if sales tracking is not working | 20% of the billed click price |
| Service work | €149 per hour |
Shops can bid per product or category; higher payments can win preferred placement (terms). Its category price list sets a base click price per category. In the bathroom rows we could read it is mostly €0.08, up to €0.24 for some cabinets; the sofa, table and sideboard rows were not read. Whether shops pay the €0.50 rate or the category rates in practice is unconfirmed.
Ideas for Leitagu
- Möbel.de's strongest tools are about price over time. Its "Preiswecker" notifies a shopper when a product reaches the price they wished for, and the wishlist works across devices; how alerts are delivered (email or push) is not stated on the homepage. These tools are not what Möbel.de earns from: shops pay it per click-out, and the alerts bring shoppers back to click again. Leitagu's favourites already track price changes since saving.
- Photo search exists at Möbel.de; none of the sites we found does a chat that asks short guided questions, which is Leitagu's approach.
- A comparison guide says furniture shoppers care about dimensions, materials, delivery, assembly and visual fit, so a sofa with unclear dimensions or costly delivery sells poorly even when cheap.
- DesignSpy's floor-plan fitting is similar in spirit to Leitagu's saved rooms; check how it is sold to stores.
Competitors in the USA
US players are moving toward chat search and AI, as Leitagu does; Furniture.com is the closest and the only one found with checkout across stores. Facts marked "opened" come from the page itself; the rest are from search results.
| Site | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture.com | Relaunched 23 February 2026 as an AI tool to find, compare and check out furniture from several brands. Chat search, side-by-side comparison, standard specs, favourites, real-time availability, geolocation and one cart across retailers. 13 named launch retailers (for example Rooms To Go, Raymour & Flanigan); boilerplate says 77+ retailers. Each retailer stays seller and handles delivery. Says about 40% of its traffic goes to shoppers new to the partner (launch release) | Opened; company claims; earnings model not stated |
| Onton (formerly Deft) | AI furniture shopping site expanding beyond furniture. Raised $7.5M in late 2025, about $10M in total (Frontier VC). Reports monthly active users up from about 50,000 to over 2 million. Search results mention room-photo and text-prompt search | Opened; headquarters, retailer count and earnings model not stated |
| Furniture Finder | One site searching several brands such as Crate&Barrel, Pottery Barn and West Elm, with AI chat and filters | Search results only; page rate-limited |
| Dupe.com and Spoken | Find cheaper alternatives to high-end pieces by image or link; Dupe.com says it searches 5,000+ retailers | Search results only; a different job from Leitagu's |
Not covered: Houzz, Wayfair, Chairish.
- Chat-based search with AI is already used in the US, so it is not unique; the guided questions, saved rooms and match explanations remain the differences we could not find elsewhere.
- Furniture.com's single-cart checkout is the one feature Leitagu does not have. Whether to want it is a business decision, since it changes who sells and handles delivery.
Future idea: licensing to stores
This is an idea to test, not a plan, and is not built. Leitagu could license its room and matching tools to stores to run on their own sites, for a licence or monthly fee instead of per click. The workload figures are estimates, not researched. DesignSpy appears to sell room fitting this way, though we found no customers or prices.
Benefits
- A second income source that does not depend on ranking or bids.
- Steadier income than per-click fees, which move with traffic.
- Stores that use the tools have a reason to keep their product data clean.
- Room fitting is not unique to Leitagu, so a licence gives a way to earn from it directly.
Time cost (estimate)
- 1–3 stores: about 1–2 hours a day in total, mostly watching feeds and answering questions.
- 5–10 stores: about half a day to a full day.
- 20+ stores: one person full-time, possibly two, and tooling instead of manual work.
- Largest costs: broken product feeds, store support, keeping each embed working, billing and reports, monitoring.
- The first stores cost the most attention per store, because the problems are learned with them.
Risks
- A store using the tools on its own site could take traffic away from Leitagu.
- Supporting a product for other companies' sites is ongoing work.
- Demand is unknown; ask a few Estonian stores before building anything.
Ways to keep the load down
- One fixed feed format, with bad feeds rejected automatically.
- Self-service error reports for stores.
- One standard embed and no custom work per store.
- Start with two or three stores as a paid pilot.
